Bulldog Stadium on the Bryant University campus. |
But that's not to say I didn't enjoy playing football with my brother and the kids in the neighborhood. Wearing old sweatpants, maybe a football jersey, clearing away the falling leaves to show the "end zone."
It was a lot of fun, and football has always been a love of mine in many ways. Working in college athletics has allowed me to be a part of many teams through working with individual players and coaches during the year and in the off season too.
There are many memorable games I have been "a part of" sitting high in the press box or jumping on a jubiliant team bus heading back to the airport after a great road victory. Montana State comes to mind when I was part of the Cal Poly traveling party as the media relations director and enjoyed every minute of Alan Bielke's 40-yard field goal in 20-degree temperatures in Bozeman, Mont. in late November, might stand out as one of the all time best.
Which brings me to my point in all of this. This weekend, the Bryant Bulldogs, the school for which I have worked at for the past eight seasons, hosts a tremendous team from Central Connecticut on Saturday. I just have a feeling there might be a little excitement generating on the sideline, given:
Bryant has never beaten Central Connecticut in three tries.
This is senior day, and it's at home.
One of the Bryant seniors is a starting quarterback from Waterbury, Connecticut.
Lining up behind him is the high school player of the year coming out of Glastonbury, Conn. who happens to lead the country in rushing yards this season.
And .. a win would tie the team for the most wins in a single season in school history at eight.
While I'm many years removed from playing football on the grass fields in the backyard with my brother, I still think back to those times and I am sure I will this Saturday nestled into my seat in the press box.
